الحوت لا يموت
هذا المشروع يقوم بتتبع أثر احد أكثر الفنانين السودانين تأثيراً في القرن المنصرم. محمود عبد العزيز "الحوت" (اكتوبر 1967- يناير 2013). موسيقي محمود و صورته يمكن القول انهما أثرتا علي جميع مناحي الثقافة السودانية. اذا قمت بزيارة احد المدن السودانية وانت لاتعلم شي عن المدينة وسكانها قطعا سوف تلاحظ صورة الحوت في اي مكان الباصات, الركشات, علي تشيرتات, يافطات المطاعم, صوالين الحلاقة ...الخ. هذه ليست محاولة للتعريف بالفنان محمود عبد العزيز أو كما يحلو لمعجبيه ان يطلقوا عليه "الحوت" فالأشياء تعرف بمحمود ولا يعرف بها هنالك تسريحات شعر بإسمه، موضات الملابس التي تأخذ أسماءها من أسماء أغانيه، موديلات السيارات والكثير الكثير من الأشياء الممهورة بتوقيع محمود. في حالة محمود ربما يكون من المستحسن ان نقلب العبارة المعروفة فتصير "إن من سمع كمن رأي .... وأكثر". ليست سوى قبض لعاصفة هي مثل هذه المحاولات. كذلك هذه ليست أمنية لوضع إطار حول بورتريه محمود الفنان، ففي حياته الملحمية كان محمود كل شيء ولم يكن كذلك أي شيء، إن الأطر لا تحيط بأمثاله،من كانوا في ذاتهم حداً يكاد من المستحيل ان نبلغه.ليست سوى قبض لعاصفة هي مثل هذه الأمنيات. أهي مرثاة من محبين أفجعهم غياب حبيبهم فأخذوا يقبضون في الهواء كل ما يذكرهم به؟ وصاروا يرون في السيارات والجدران وأبواب المحلات تجسد لمعشوقهم الغائب،أهم كذلك أصابت عقلهم اللوثة مثل ذلك الفارس الذي أتخمت عقله كتب الفروسية فإستل سيفه ومضى يبارز في طواحين الهواء؟ قبض لعاصفة هو قبض هذا الهواء. في الحقيقة نحن هنا للإحتفاء ليس بمحمود بالطبع، ولكن به وعبره، نحن هنا للإحتفاء بالحياة ، للإحتفاء بالحب، للإحتفاء بالمدينة التي صارت كفيلم سينمائي بطله صور محمود عبد العزيز ،التي ستجدها في كل شبر يمكن ان تقع عليه عيناك، وموسيقته التصويرية هي أغانيه التي تحيط بنا كما تحيط التميمة بيد طفل صغير. نحن هنا لإحياء الطرب والبهجة عن طريق إلتقاط آثار فنان، أشجانا أيما شجو وأطربنا أيما طرب وعن طريق إلتقاط إنفعالات كل محبيه المخلصين.نحن هنا لنرقص حتى تثور العاصف
Al-hoot never dies
This project follows the footprints of one of the most influential Sudanese artists of the past century: Mahmoud AbdAlaziz (October 1967- January 2013) a.k.a. Al-hoot (Arabic for The Whale). His music and image have influenced every aspect of the Sudanese culture. If you visit one of the Sudanese urban centres and you know nothing about the city or its people, chances are that you will still notice his photos everywhere: in the buses, rickshaws, on T-shirts, restaurants’ doors, barbershops, etc.
This is not an attempt to introduce Mahmoud, for we have been introduced to things by Mahmoud; there are haircuts with his name, fashions named after his songs, cars models and much more. And with him, we better reverse the well-known Arabic proverb* to become "who has heard, has also seen….and even more". Those attempts are a chasing of a storm.
Also, this is not a wish to put a frame around the portrait of Mahmoud the artist, since during his epic life Mahmoud was everything, as he was not anything. His equals are not to be framed; those who were themselves a frame that we can't reach. These wishes are a chasing of a storm.
Is it a lamentation of lovers grieved by the absence of their beloved one that they started chasing in the air whatever reminds them of him? Started seeing on cars, walls and shops' doors an embodiment of their absent idol? Have they been seized by obsessions just as that knight whose mind had been engrossed by cavalry books so he took his sword and went to fight the windmills? Chasing this air is a chasing of a storm.
Actually, we are here to celebrate, not Mahmoud, but by him and through him, we are here to celebrate life, to celebrate love, to celebrate the city that became a cinematic film whose hero are Mahmoud's photos which you will find constanly around you, whose soundtrack is his songs that encircle us like an amulet encircling a baby's hand. We are here to resurrect gaiety and joy by tracing the steps of an artist whose sad melodies have saddened us, whose joyful melodies have filled us with joy, by tracing the excitements of his faithful lovers; we are here to dance till we provoke the storm.
*Who has heard is not like who has seen.

This man used to attend all performance of ALHOOT and for the period of two years ALHOOT didn’t make a live performance which is very weird, a lot of rumours was Spreader about Mahmoud went insane and addicted to drugs and he might not be able to sing ever agin.
In the first show of ALHOOT after that and while hi is climbing the stage the disable man crossed his crutch saluting him so hi saluting him back with the same move and this move become his formal way to salute the audience and the fans everywhere.

Ghazi Mustafa ’’Hoota (Mahmoud) is really missed by all Sudanese young people. So, we like to put his photos in our cars and Toktoks, because we haven't forgotten him and we will never do. And I swear that we don’t even take him for a dead now, we are just considering him in a vacation! He is everywhere; his songs are played in cars, in restaurants, everywhere, day and night Hoota is singing’’

Mahmoutd has really fought and suffered for his art. He is a great voice, an expressive artist, and a poet whose songs are all beautiful and any young man would find himself in them, his sensations, his dreams, his sufferings . In short , anything that one loves in songs will find in ''Mahmod’s music.

As long as his songs are alive, we will always remember him, and I hope this will never die. I am also a very lucky person; in 2008 in Khartoum-Alhajyousif I met Mahmoud, I attended around 6 of his concerts and I say I am lucky as I have spent my whole life in Port Sudan, and I have been in a holiday to Khartoum then through some acquaintances I managed to meet Mahmoud, which I can say is a great honour for me.”
